I want all of my students to feel comfortable first with the fundamentals of painting which I learned while at the Academy. Being taught about master painting techniques from a young age was a tremendous help to me. And it’s something that can never be taken away. I feel like too many undergrad painting classes place too much emphasis on concept to the detriment of the fundamentals. I also want my students to be able to look at other artists who inspire them, identify the techniques which they use, and incorporate those into their own work. We live in a time where someone can choose to paint in a variety of styles, so I really want to know what my students like so I can help them achieve those goals of emulating those who they look up to.  This often involves teaching them how to blog and organize their ideas about they are looking at, and what they are thinking about.
